Packet-Mix Sachet the curry paste for the exotic rice dish called Biryani. "Meat is flavoured with herbs, spices and seasoning and cooked along with aromatic basmati rice to prepare one of India's finest foods, the Biryani."

A traditional spice mix for Biryani which is Indo-Pak rice dish that has meat and is flavored with herbs and spices. This dish is served on special occasions.

2. 12 oz. of chicken

It can be made with either chicken, beef or lamb. Although time consuming the hard work is mostly done in this ready made Biryani Mix. Biryani is rich in flavor, aroma and looks great. Good served with yogurt raita and cucumber salad.

Please remember that in a Biryani the rice is fried (optional) and parboiled separately while the meat or the vegetables cooked separately. They two are then combined in layers and baked.

Cooking Directions for a traditional Biryani
STEP 1
300 gms. or 10 oz. of chicken
entire packet of this mix
1/2 a cup of yogurt
1 cup of water
Put the above in a pan and cook until the meat is cooked.

STEP 2
4 oz Ghee
1lb Rice (washed and drained)
1 Lemon (optional)

In a large pan half fill bring 5 cups of water to a boil.  Add the washed rice and cook for 10 minuites.  Drain the rice in a seive and rinse with a little cold water.

STEP 3
Transfer the meat mixture into a flattish baking dish there should be about 1 cup of liquid in the meat left if not add water to make the liquid to 1 cup. Now spread the rice evenly over the meat. Squeeze the lemon and pour the juice over the rice. Dot generously with ghee/clarified butter. Cover the dish tightly with foil of a baking dish cover. Bake on 350 degrees F for 30 minuites.

Cooking Directions on the package
Pressure Cooker

Take 300 gms. or 10 oz. of chicken, entire packet of this mix, 1/2 a cup of yogurt and 1 cup of water in a cooker and cook for 2 whistles. Cook seperately 1 cup of basmati rice (add salt as per taste). Spread this rice on the cooked chicken. Add cashewnuts, raisins and pure ghee.
Microwave
Take 300gms of basmati rice in a microwave bowl. Add 6 cups of water and salt and let it remain for half-an-hour. Cover and cook on micro 800 w for 18 mins. Take another microwave bowl and put in it 300gms of chicken, entire packet mix, 100gms of curd and 225ml of water and mix it well. Cover and cook on micro 800 w for 20min. Now spread the cooked rice on it and add cashewnuts, raisins and pure ghee. Cover and keep this on micro 400 w for 8 mins. Delicious Chicken Biryani is ready (for 4 persons). Follow the same procedure for Mutton Biryani, but while cooking mutton, cook on micro 800 w for 25 min


Simple steps to make Biryani:

Chicken Biryani:

Take 500g of Chicken, entire contents of this packet, 100g of plain yoghurt and 2 cups (300ml) of water in a cooking pan. Mix well. Cover with a lid and cook on a low heat for 20-minutes. Cook 300g of Basmati Rice separately. (Rice recipe is given below). Spread the cooked rice on the cooked chicken in an even layer. Add cashew nuts, raisins and 2 tbsp of pure ghee (clarified butter) to it. Cover and let it cook on steam for 10-minutes, on a low heat.

Lamb Biryani:

Take 500g of Lamb, entire contents of this packet, 100g of plain yoghurt and 3 cups (450ml) of water in a cooking pan. Mix well. Cover with a lid and simmer for about 60-minutes on a low heat. Cook 300g of Basmati Rice separately. (Rice recipe is given below). Spread the cooked rice on the cooked Lamb in an even layer. Add cashew nuts, raisins and 2 tbsp of pure ghee (clarified butter) to it. Cover and let it cook on steam for 10-minutes, on a low heat.

Vegetable Biryani:

Take 500g of Vegetables, entire contents of this packet, 50g of plain yoghurt and 3 cups (450ml) of water in a cooking pan. Mix well. Cover with a lid and simmer for about 15-minutes on a low heat. Cook 300g of Basmati Rice separately. (Rice recipe is given below). Spread the cooked rice on the cooked Vegetables in an even layer. Add cashew nuts, raisins and 2 tbsp of pure ghee (clarified butter) to it. Cover and let it cook on steam for 10-minutes, on a low heat.

Rice Recipe:

Wash 300g of Basmati rice. Add 41/2 cups (675ml) of water, 11/2 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of sugar and 1 tbsp of oil to the rice. Mix well and cook until all the water has evaporated.
