Amla is used extensively in indigenous medicine. It is one of the chief
constituents of Chywangrans. It is said that the great Rishi Chayawan rejuvenated himself
and regained his virility with the use of Chawanprash in his late 70s. It is acidic,
cooling, refrigerant, diuretic and laxative. Amla is indigenous to India. The tree grows
in the Deccan, the sea-coast districts and in Kashmir.
