Massaging a Child - some tips
A child may be massaged at any age. Very small children/infants may be massaged gently for
10 minutes and then the massage may be worked to 30 minutes a day by the time they are a
year old. Morning massages are the best. For best results do not have bright lights and the
room must be warm. Rub the oil in your palms. This will warm the oil and your hands to the
perfect temperature for your child. Use gently circular movements with your hands. Massage
the chest and work on the outside in towards the heart. Gently work the fingers, hands and
up the arms to the shoulder. Now the legs. Follow the same technique, starting with the
feet and working your way up to the top of the thighs. Now it is time to gently turn your
baby/child onto his/her back. Massage all of your baby's back Then massage the buttocks
and it is best to do both 'cheeks' at the same time. Lastly, after the child has absorbed
the wonderful experience turn the child over and massage the face. Start with the middle
of the forehead using the tips of your fingers and along the eyebrows. Using your thumbs,
lightly go along the bridge of the nose up to the forehead. After the massage is over
finish the massage with a warm bath.
