We need to nourish our skin most in winter than any other season.
COLD WEATHER TIPS FOR BEAUTIFUL SKIN-
Written By: Pratima Raichur
Overexposure to dry, cold wind damages the skin. In addition to their dehydrating effects, cold and wind put pressure on the epidermis – the protective top layer of skin, which is composed of dead cells. When the cold and pressure are extreme, the dead cells burst- leaving the living, young cells of the dermis layer exposed prematurely to the elements.
The unprotected cells become inflamed, causing a tingling sensation on the skin, a problem that is particularly common in the cold season. The best protection against this effect is not face creams, but essential oils. We recommend the BINDI VATA ESSENTIAL OIL for the face during the cold season.
- Take fewer baths and showers in cold season to avoid dryness. When you do bathe, add a few drops of essential oil to the water to provide lubrication. One can also massage with the BINDI BODY OILS or the BINDI BATH OILS before and after showering or bathing.
- Keep the temperature of your home as low as you comfortably can and use a humidifier or keep a bowl of water on your radiators to add moisture to the air.
- Take an occasional steam bath, but avoid saunas, which are dehydrating.
- Winter Living - it is important to have a routine. keeping warm with a warming diet, hot soups, steam baths not saunas, and moisturizing the skin with Bindi oils and humidifiers are recommended. Add soothing, soft music, and calm to life at this time. Reduce air travel, salads, cold foods and drinks, loud noises, stimulation, drugs, sugar, and alcohol in winter. If a routine and grounded foods are not followed it may result in nervousness, worries and constipation.
Winter or Vata diet consists of warm, moist, slightly oily, heavy foods. Avoid raw foods, cold foods like bananas or spice them with warming saffron. Eat warm foods and spices like garam masala. This is a good season for root veggies, beans, meats and winter fruits.
