Spices And Seasonings For Dals
Dals takeon spices and flavorings and get tranformed into tasty, healthy, gourmet meals.
Dals can be cooked or better pressure cooked with tomatoes, carrots, spinach, squash, pumpkins and other vegetables. After it is cooked it can be spiced up with the following flavors
Dal Spices
Turmeric powder gives a golden hue to dals
Asafetida
Cumin Seeds
Red Chillies
Mustard seeds
Ginger Paste a must in most dals
Garlic Paste is sometimes used in dals
Ghee or oil is used to fry the spices
Tamarind or lime juice or fresh tomatoes or amchur powder to flavor the dal and add a tangy taste to dals
Jaggery, maple syrup, brown sugar or palm sugar to flavor the dal sweet (optional)
Coconut shredded dry and fried browned onions add added flavor to dals (optional)
