Mustard is known to be very helpful for digestion, and can help to speed up your metabolism. For irritation of the kidneys, mustard is an herb that can't be beat. Make a mustard paste and apply directly to the lower back, over the kidneys. To make mustard paste for kidney irritation, combine one part ground mustard and four parts flour. Whole wheat flour is preferred for this application. Make a thick paste of the mixture by adding egg whites, usually one or two will do the job. The mustard paste should be thick enough to spread easily onto a cloth. If you don't have egg whites on hand, you can use water instead but this could blister the skin. Just make sure to remove the mustard paste as soon as the burning becomes uncomfortable. For congestion of the head or lungs, mustard is an excellent remedy.
